Welshpool, Mid Wales
The Westwood Park Hotel is a great, comfortable base from which to explore the fantastic Welsh countryside and wealth of exciting local attractions in Welshpool and Powys.
The Powys hills are on our doorstep, and the Westwood is ideally situated to provide an excellent stop-off for walkers on the renowned Offa’s Dyke Footpath, Glyndwr Way and Severn Way. We can arrange luggage transfer, provide advice on routes and even accommodate your four-legged walking companions.
The landlady Diane is a keen motorcyclist, and the Westwood is host to many bike meets, including the Clive Motorbike Club. The Westwood also provides ideal accommodation for those attending the Welsh National Motorcycling Rally, which sees hundreds of motorcyclists flocking to nearby Castle Caereinion every May. We can provide secure overnight parking with CCTV for motorcycles, and offer advice on onward routes.
Black Pools Fishing Special Offer
The Black Pools are privately owned fly fishing lakes located in Welshpool, Mid Wales. A well-stocked lake, it contains rainbow trout, tiger trout and blue trout which can be purchased after catching or released.
Landlord Tich has achieved a falconry apprenticeship and can arrange falconry experiences and hunting days or provide advice and directions to local golf courses, depending on your ability. For those packing their fishing rods, Tich, a keen fisherman and chairman of local fly fishing club The Black Pools can sell fishing permits for the Black Pools as well as the Montgomeryshire Angling Association. He can also recommend other places of interest for coarse fishing or fly fishing.
Other attractions on the Westwood’s doorstep include the National Trust Powys Castle and Gardens, the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, Powysland Museum and the Montgomeryshire Canal. Slightly further afield are England and Wales’ tallest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr, the stunning Lake Vyrnwy and Glansevern Hall Gardens. If you want to shop and explore, the historic, picturesque market towns of Shrewsbury and Oswestry are ideal for a quaint but bustling shopping experience.
